The Hockeyroos secured a dominant 4–0 victory over France on Tuesday, producing a clinical first-half performance before locking down defensively to finish with a clean sheet.
Celebrating her 100th international appearance, Amy Lawton played a key role in Australia’s opening goal. In the 6th minute of the first quarter, Lawton delivered a perfectly weighted aerial pass that found Neasa Flynn inside the attacking circle. Flynn controlled the opportunity superbly and finished to give the Hockeyroos an early 1–0 lead.
Australia maintained control throughout the opening quarter, applying constant pressure on the French defence while limiting France’s opportunities going forward. At the end of the first quarter the Hockeyroos held a 1–0 advantage.
The goals began to flow in the second quarter as Australia capitalised on their momentum. In the 18th minute, a chaotic ball into the circle created an opportunity for Grace Stewart, who reacted quickest to pounce on the loose ball and extend the Hockeyroos’ lead to two.
Just four minutes later the Hockeyroos struck again. Stephanie Kershaw produced a classy finish in the 22nd minute, calmly converting to give Australia a commanding 3–0 advantage.
Australia’s attacking dominance continued shortly after, with Alice Arnott finding herself perfectly positioned on the back post to tap in a well-worked team goal and push the margin out to four. At halftime the Hockeyroos had built a comprehensive 4–0 lead.
The second half proved a far tighter contest, with France lifting their defensive intensity and Australia focusing on game management. Despite several attacking phases from both sides, neither team was able to add to the scoreboard as the match developed into an arm wrestle.
Australia’s defensive unit stood strong to shut down any French opportunities, ensuring the Hockeyroos kept a clean sheet and closed out an impressive 4–0 victory.

Australia maintained strong possession throughout the first two quarters, moving the ball well and applying pressure in attacking areas, but Chile’s defensive structure held firm to deny the Hockeyroos any clear scoring opportunities.
Despite Australia’s territorial advantage, neither side was able to break the deadlock and the teams went into halftime locked at 0–0.
Chile found the breakthrough in the third quarter through a well-executed penalty corner variation. Josefa Salas finished the move with a clean strike to give the home side a 1–0 lead and ignite the local crowd. At the close of the third quarter, Chile held a narrow advantage.
Australia responded immediately in the final quarter. Steph Kershaw found space inside the circle in the 45th minute and produced a composed finish to level the scores, breathing new life into the Hockeyroos’ attack and setting up a tense finish.
With the match seemingly headed for a draw, Chile earned a penalty corner after the final buzzer in dramatic circumstances. From the resulting set piece, Maria Maldonado was perfectly positioned on the back post to deflect the ball home, sparking wild celebrations from the home crowd and sealing a 2–1 victory for Chile.
