That’s a wrap on the FIH Pro League in Hobart, with international hockey returning to Tasmania for a fortnight of world-class competition at the Aurora Energy Tasmanian Hockey Centre.

On the pitch, the Kookaburras delivered a strong start to their 2026 FIH Pro League campaign, continuing to build momentum towards the FIH Hockey World Cup. The men claimed seven wins from eight matches across the Hobart stage, with their only defeat coming in a thrilling final decided by a narrow penalty shootout against India. The series also marked a special milestone for Jeremy Hayward, who celebrated his 250th international appearance in front of Australian fans.

For the Hockeyroos, Block 1 provided valuable match experience, highlighted by a shootout victory over Ireland before departing for Chile for the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers. Block 2 saw a refreshed squad take to the turf, featuring a mix of returning athletes and exciting new talent who impressed against some of the world’s strongest nations. Across the two blocks, 12 Hockeyroos and four Kookaburras earned their international debuts, including two proud Tasmanians representing Australia on home soil.

Off the pitch, the Aurora Energy Tasmanian Hockey Centre came alive with entertainment and fan engagement throughout the event. KOJO delivered vibrant in-venue presentation, while fans around the country tuned in via broadcast partner 7plus.

The Hobart stage also marked Hockey Australia’s inaugural Partner Experience, welcoming representatives from six major partners for a dedicated weekend of activities across Hobart, alongside attendance at Australian double-header matches.

Beyond international competition, Hockey Australia delivered a meaningful and lasting impact across the Tasmanian hockey community. A Coaching and Officiating Conference supported the development of local leaders, complemented by the delivery of an FIH Level 2 Coaching Course and a Foundation Level Technical Officials Course to strengthen state pathways.

Clubs were further supported through Community Participation Forums and Game Plan workshops in Hobart and Launceston, providing practical guidance on club development and administration. Game Plan Roadshows were also delivered as part of Hockey Australia’s rollout of the Australian Sports Commission portal, assisting clubs and associations to assess capability, recognise strengths and build action plans, with a 2026 focus on safeguarding and workforce development.

Education initiatives delivered significant reach across the state. A Teacher Professional Development practical session in Hobart supported 10 teachers to enhance hockey delivery in schools, while we also had 48 athletes, 28 Kookaburras and 20 Hockeyroos, visited 25 Tasmanian schools, engaging with more than 4,036 students. These visits inspired the next generation and strengthened connections between Australia’s national teams and the local community. Community clinics ensured inclusive participation opportunities, and young fans experienced unforgettable moments running onto the pitch as part of the Guard of Honour.

Between Pro League blocks, Kookaburras and Hockeyroos athletes and staff also undertook a High Performance Integrity Education Session, reinforcing accountability, reporting pathways, and the shared responsibility of maintaining safe, fair and inclusive environments.

Hockey Australia was proud to deliver the FIH Hockey Pro League in partnership with the City of Hobart, Events Tasmania and Hockey Tasmania, whose ongoing support played a vital role in bringing international hockey back to the state.

To everyone who attended, watched, volunteered or supported the FIH Hockey Pro League in Hobart — thank you for helping make the event a resounding success.

Australia’s international hockey journey continues, with the Hockeyroos aiming to secure qualification in Chile and the Kookaburras building momentum as they gear up for the FIH Hockey World Cup later this year.
